Community Involvement

Nathan has been on several boards, including the pediatric cancer foundation, Sammy’s Superheroes. This work led to him winning a $15,000 grant for the foundation from Northwestern Mutual for a community service award in 2016. It was a highlight of his career to stand on stage in Chicago to accept the award. This success was followed by a regional award from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in 2017, which recognized the efforts of Nebraska to raise awareness about the seriousness of pediatric cancer with $100,000 to be given to local Nebraska philanthropies. Nathan is excited for the upcoming local Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation fundraiser spearheaded by Columbus families on May 31, which will raise money for researching causes of and cures for pediatric cancer.

Community Involvement

Giving back to the community is very important to the whole Karges family. Every year, they participate in the JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation) walk in Lincoln with family and friends in support of Sofia, Nathan's daughter, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 7.

Aside from involvement with these causes, Nathan’s other community ties include the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the local Elk’s Club. Check back for updates on events the Northwestern Mutual office of Columbus is involved in and ways you can support the Columbus community!
